Amazon Book Reviews — How To Post

November 11, 2024

Do you have something to say about a book? Posting a review on Amazon helps other readers discover and learn about the book, and may help the author.

  • Honest: Your review should reflect what you honestly think about the book
  • Purchased on Amazon: If you purchased the book on Amazon, you can post a “Star-rating” without adding text, photo, or video
  • Purchased elsewhere
    - Only customers who spent at least $50 on Amazon in the last 12 months can submit ratings and reviews
    - If you didn't buy the book on Amazon, you can still post a review, but you need to add your text, photo, or video
    - See alternate review sites at bottom of page
  • Writing: One or more words. If you find it difficult to write a review, look at other reviews for ideas

How to post a book review on Amazon:

1. Go to Reviews

Find the book on Amazon and scroll down to Customer Reviews, for example “One Ripple at a Time” https://www.amazon.com/One-Ripple-Time-Mothers-Story/dp/1647427940/#customerReviews

2. Select Write a Review

On the Left below “Customer reviews” click “Write a customer review”

If you are not logged in — the “Sign in” page appears

Amazon Sign-In — If you have an Amazon account and have spent at least $50 on Amazon in the last 12 months, sign in

If you do not already have an Amazon account — or if you have not spent at least $50 on Amazon in the last 12 months — you will not be able to post an Amazon review. Please see "Alternate Review Sites" at the bottom of the page.

Return to Reviews — Return to Amazon book page Customer Reviews (see #1-2 above)

3. Create Review

The “Create Review” page appears, with the book at the top

  • Overall Rating (Stars) — 1-star lowest / bad — to 5-stars highest / excellent
  • Headline (Optional) — Typically 1-8 words. What’s most important to know about the book? Appears in bold at the top of the review — the most-read part of a review
  • Review (Optional)— Typically a few words to 1-3 paragraphs. What would readers want to know about the book? What did you like or dislike? Was it honest, heartbreaking, beautiful, or well-written? Did you gain insight or learn something from reading it?
  • Photo or Video (Optional)— Your photo or video of the book, like a phone snapshot or a video book review
  • Edit Public Name (Optional) — Near the top is your “public name” and profile image (if any) to appear with your review. To change your public name, click “Edit public name”

4. Submit

When you are ready, click the “Submit” button

5. Processing

It may take a few days before your review is public. Amazon says, “Review submitted - Thank you! We’re processing your review. This might take several days… We will email you when this is complete”

Alternate Review Sites

If you do not have an Amazon account or did not spend at least $50 on Amazon in the last 12 months -- or if you want to post more reviews -- here are some other places to post book reviews:

  • GoodReads https://www.goodreads.com/

Happy reviewing!
