Every Child Deserves Music!

Brian's Youth Music Scholarship

With deep love, in memory of Janice Jensen's son Brian, this need-based music scholarship gives kindergarten to high-school students access to lessons, classes, camp, and instruments. The scholarship is managed by The Shedd Institute for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Eugene, Oregon. A gift of:

  • $20 gives a grade-K-to-5 child 2 drop-in classes to explore music and instruments
  • $100 gives a K-to-high-school student 4-to-5 half-hour private lessons
  • $900 pays for 4 elementary students to attend music camp for 1-week

The scholarship has reached endowment status to provide long-term support. We continue to fundraise to share the joy of music with more children and young people.

More Details

In honor of Brian Jensen’s kind-hearted spirit and deep love of music, his mother, Janice Jensen, is sponsoring this scholarship fundraiser for youth music at The Shedd.

Brian was nine years old when, without warning, a power company released a flood that swept him away. Janice’s memoir, One Ripple at a Time, follows the accident and her story of rebuilding her life with her daughter and husband. Janice shares how she gradually rediscovered joy and ultimately reconnected with her son’s spirit. About the book
